Given the major role Inverness Campus will play in the future of the city and the wider Highlands and Islands region, the Campus has been planned with sustainability in mind from the very beginning.
To ensure sustainability is at the very heart of the project, HIE commissioned the Building Research Establishment (BRE) to apply its GreenPrint methodology for masterplans and facilitate an extensive review of sustainability issues with the various stakeholders, consultants and architects involved in the project.
The GreenPrint process takes account of climate change, building materials, resources, transport, ecology, business benefits and community impact and ‘place-making'.
The objective of HIE and the stakeholders is for the Campus to achieve the highest levels of sustainability for an academic environment. BRE's conclusion, in its assessment to date, is that the Campus masterplan can achieve the desired high standards by virtue of its layout, orientation of buildings and approaches to transportation, microclimate, ecology, landscape and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS). SuDS offer an alternative approach to traditional drainage by employing a whole suite of techniques to effectively manage drainage at source.
Design Guidelines will be developed to influence construction on the Campus and to ensure that the recommendations for sustainability and approaches to construction, have a deliverable supply chain in the region.
Seach gum bi prìomh àite aig Àrainn Inbhir Nis san àm ri teachd ann an sgìre na Gàidhealtachd is nan Eilean, chaidh an Àrainn a dhealbhachadh bho thùs le seasmhachd san amharc.
Gus a bhith cinnteach gum biodh seasmhachd aig cridhe a’ phròiseict, thug HIE coimisean do Bhunait Rannsachaidh nan Togalach (BRE) airson gun cuireadh iad am modh-obrach GreenPrint aca airson bun-phlanaichean an gnìomh agus gus lèirmheas mhionaideach a dhèanamh air cùisean seasmhachd còmhla ris an luchd-compàirt, an luchd-comhairleachaidh agus na h-ailtirean a bha an sàs sa phròiseact.
Tha pròiseas GreenPrint mothachail air atharrachadh sa ghnàth-shìde, air stuthan togail, stòrasan, còmhdhail, eag-eòlas, buannachdan malairt, buaidh sa choimhearsnachd agus stèidheachadh àite.
’S e amas HIE agus an luchd-compàirt gun coilean an Àrainn na h-ìrean as àirde a thaobh seasmhachd airson àrainn sgoilearach. ’S e co-dhùnadh BRE aig an ìre seo, a thaobh a’ mheasaidh gu seo, gun tèid aig plana na h-Àrainn air àrd-inbhe a choileanadh air sgàth deilbh-chruth, suidheachadh nan togalaichean agus am modh-obrach a thaobh còmhdhala, mion-ghnàth-shìde, eag-eòlais, cruth-tìre agus Shiostaman Drèanaidh Seasmhach (SuDS). Tha SuDS na dhòigh-obrach eadar-dhealaichte seach drèanadh traidiseanta le bhith a’ cleachdadh raon slàn de mhodhan-obrach gus drèanadh a riaghladh gu h-èifeachdach air an làrach.
Leasaichear Stiùireadh Dealbhaidh gus buaidh a thoirt air obair togail air a’ Àrainn gus a bhith cinnteach gum bi e comasach na molaidhean air seasmhachd gus modhan-obrach togail a sholar anns an sgìre.
